'The Bordeaux-PZ-59' 59" Cast Iron Chariot Tub with PURE METAL Polished Zinc Exterior and Drain The 'Bordeaux' is a simply gorgeous Chariot Plinth bathtub. Blending the best of vintage European and contemporary American design, Penhaglion found true inspiration from the first Chariot tubs made by Rogeat in France in the mid-1800's. The St.Petersburg, Florida based designers at Penhaglion then created a fabulous plinth for it to sit upon, making it a truly exclusive, beautiful and unique bathtub.
Product Details Combining their own artistic tendencies and extensive engineering knowledge, Penhaglion designers employed another process, originally patented in the 1880's and later perfected in the aerospace industry, to bond liquid zinc onto the exterior of the cast iron and present the beautifully finished polished zinc forged appearance seen on the 'Bordeaux'. This listing is for the 59" version of the 'Bordeaux' (the photo shows the 73" size). While the tub is supplied in two pieces, tub and base, for easy handling and installation, it looks like a single piece. The tub shape offers very deep bathing in a sitting up position. It is amply sized for most single bathers.
Manufacturing The cast iron tub shell and plinth are left in their original form as they exit the furnace. They are cleaned of any excess iron scale. The inside of the tub is then finished with thick, bright white high grade enamel before completing the exterior. Onto the raw iron exterior, we apply twelve layers of pure molten liquid zinc to present this truly stunning finish. Still retaining the original forging marks, the zinc is an almost mirror silver living finish.
Maintaining the Finish The polished zinc is not very reactive and will darken only very slightly over the years. The finish is very simple to maintain and a wipe with a soft cloth will remove most marks. For more stubborn stains, a soft cloth with some Mothers polish will remove these easily. A soft cloth with soapy water will remove most stains from the enamel interior. Should stubborn stains appear, we recommend the use of a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponge.
